Why do some people have a cup for Miriam at the seder table?

Miriam, the sister of Moses was responsible for saving him as a baby. When the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, she and a group of women danced with their timbrels. One of seven women prophets, Jewish legend also says that because of her merit God created wells (called Miriam's wells) from which water could be drawn by the Israelites throughout their trek in the desert. For all of the aforementioned reasons, many people salute Miriam with a cup of wine, often inviting her into their homes along with Elijah the Prophet.
