How can one figure out what the Jewish year is if one does not possess a Jewish calendar?

Just as the Chinese have their year of the rat, dog, chicken, tiger and others, so do Jews have their own chronological system. The current Jewish year is always found by adding 3760 to the presence civil calendar. Thus United States, in the Jewish calendar, was founded in 5536 (1776+3760=5536), and World War II ended in 5705 (1945+3760=5705) . This method of figuring out the years was first established in the second century of the common era and has been used ever since.
